How to Penny Shop at Dollar General
I have created a video that will show you step by step on how to get started with Penny Shopping at your local Dollar General Store.
Each week Dollar General releases a list nationwide to each store that informs the employees on which items to remove from the shelf, usually to make room for new items. You can find hundreds of items that are on the shelf at your local Dollar General that employees just didn't have the time to remove, you can find this list on our website or Facebook Group.
I created Dollar Admiral to make it easy for anyone young and old to begin penny shopping. The app allows you to easily scan items at your local store and will chime and alert you that a penny item has been found. You do not even have to look at your screen while scanning barcodes in the store.
Some great places to look for penny items in the store are the Clearance section, up high on shelves where employees placed items for restocking but forgot about them, and especially the clothing section.
When you are looking at the clothing section at a Dollar General I have had amazing luck finding hundreds of shoes, socks, shirts, pants and hats. When you look at the price tag on the clothing take note of certain symbols. For example SS19, SS18, FW19, FW18, FW17, etc. This is an indicator to the age it has been at the store. SS means "Spring Summer" and FW means "Fall Winter" and the 2 digits following is the year.
A clothing item is much more likely to be a penny if the tag reads FW18, SS18, FW17, SS17 or older. Scan any item you see with these tags.
